STAGE 1 3+4yrs & STAGE 1 5yrs+
Developing basic safety awareness, the 'class' scenario, basic movement skills and water confidence skills. Swimmers may use aids - arm bands, shark fins, floats etc.
Children must be able to swim 5m comfortably on their front and back, out of their depth and be able to perform a star float unaided.
Children must be able to swim 10m comfortably and confidently on their front and back, out of their depth.
Children must be able to swim 20m with arm over recovery on their front and back, 10m with frontcrawl breathing at the side, 10m of breaststroke and dolphin legs and have an good understanding of water safety.
Children must be able to swim 25m of frontcrawl (with breathing at the side throughout), backstroke (with good technique), 15m breaststroke (with good technique) and 20m of breaststroke legs and dolphin legs.
Children must be able to swim 50m of frontcrawl, backstroke, 25m of breaststroke and 15m of butterfly. This is a lengths class therefore children must be able to perform their strokes to a good standard and be able to cope swimming lengths.
Children must be able to swim 150m of frontcrawl, backstroke, breaststroke and 25m of butterfly. Children will be developing quality stroke technique, incorporating skills learnt and combining them to develop a linked routine and complete successfully an obstacle course that combines a variety of skills accomplished throughout stages 1-7.
Introduction to stamina and speed based training sets up to 400m. Children must be able to swim all four competitive strokes effectively and efficiently. A variety of distance, personal survival and challenge awards are available at this stage.
Swim for fitness! will give children the opportunity to learn some of the skills taught at a swimming club without the added pressure of competing at galas and attending regular training.
